A Bit of Cheering Up

This week has been one of those slow sort of weeks which drags on, not helped by the weather which has been totally and utterly awful and unbearably depressing.  So I have been putting anti-winter-blues measures in place.

Yessssss sushine and blue sky.

I could finally let the chickens out without worrying about them getting blown away or drowned.  They had a lovely morning scratching about...until the hailstorm that heralded the return of the weather arrived and I found them huddling together looking bedraggled and rather disappointed.

I caught Margot hanging out by the saucepan which I am hoping means there are eggs imminent...fingers crossed!

My bulbs have started peeping through which is extremely exciting,

and my rhubarb is also doing fab growy things.

Then I baked, which always makes everything better.

I went and got my hair cut.  I like it a lot, sorry about the terrible selfie!

I had my lovely neighbours round for supper and drinkies last night.  We had an enormous vegetable curry with piles of home made naan, and blackberry and apple crumble to finish.  We finished with chocolate and sloe gin in front of the fire, perfect Wednesday evening stuff.

Next step, flowers.  My kitchen window sill is fast running out of space: I have a cyclamen which is one of my favourites and it just flowers on and on, a bunch of snowdrops filched from one of the empty house's gardens, a glorious pot of narcissi (sadly not scented, but they only cost a pound - you can't have everything), a hyacinth which is sooo close to opening and I can't wait for my kitchen to be filled with amazing hyacinthy smell, and finally a teeny tiny rose which is struggling somewhat, but I am nurturing it back to life...I think.

These beautiful roses from my lovely new friend greet me as I come in the front door.

My first daffodils of the year are all jolly and bright in the drawing room, nestling in amongst some pretty twiggy bits I found on a walk.

Feeling much cheerier now!
