This week we introduced some new hens to our rather depleted flock. We recently lost Minty and Margot, and as Gertie is currently busy being a mummy, Honoria was in need of some company.
We found this lot not far away, part of a flock that needed re-homing, and couldn't let the opportunity pass.

They are polar opposites to the rather petite Margot and Minty and are absolutely massive, have vast fluffy bloomers and lay enormous eggs.
We have a Welsummer called Bonny (after Anne Bonny the ruthless pirate),

a very escape-y but gorgeously speckledy Legbar called Effy (short for effugio which means 'escape' in latin) who lays lovely pale blue eggs,

and a hybrid called Moose who refused to have her photo taken yesterday; she's the fat whitey-golden one hiding in the back of the photos.

They are all busy making friends...ish; I did look out yesterday to see Bonny standing on top of Honoria and calmly plucking out her feathers...but I'm sure they'll settle down within a few days once the pecking order has been established.
