If you value your sanity, just don't bother, ever. This is our first proper move as when we moved here three years ago, we were just married and owned little more than books and fabric...if only we were still in that position! We have had three years to accumulate things and spread out and settle down, so this move was slightly more traumatic. Please excuse the dodgy rubbish photographs, photo taking was low down on the priority list!
Good breakfast and sweetening up the movers was high on the priority list however.
The removal men came to pack on Monday and Tuesday and trundled off to the West country with all the things, then yesterday we left at 0500 to drive to the new house, let the movers in and rummage around for a few things which accidentally got packed and should have stayed in Northwood.
New kitchen!
Having rescued the items and had several strong coffees we leaped (hmm, maybe more of a reluctant crawl...) into the car and drove all the way back again....Plymouth is an extremely long way away. Very extremely - it took 5 hours each way. Wont be doing that again in a hurry.
Today's "only a few things to do" didn't really turn out quite as expected. To start with we woke up tired which was definitely not a good start to the day, then it rained on me, a LOT, when I was trying to sort the garden out, then we had the wrong colour magnolia (we had 3 different pots and they were all wrong) so painting over the picture-hook holes looks just as bad as if we had left the Polyfilla unpainted. We had a bit of a sense of humour failure around lunchtime which was only solved by a quick run to Waitrose for delicious hot roast chicken which we tore apart and ate with our fingers.
The hot, greasy, salty goodness was just what we needed to give us a new burst of energy for the afternoon.
Not a great photo, but I think it successfully sums up the day!
Then we kept finding things that the movers hadn't packed and the space in the car was heading steadily towards 'no driver' and then we remembered we had someone's abandoned filing cabinet in our garage which had to go to the tip. That was pretty much the final straw and the point at which we decided that life was just too short to be panicking about all these ridiculous details and we'd be better off shutting the door, going back to our friends' house, and getting comfy with pyjamas, a drink, crisps and a film. So here we are. It is excellent, I completely have sludge for brains and am incapable of anything more than lifting one crisp after another into my mouth. I'm quite surprised I have managed to actually make real sentences in this post, but then again, maybe I'll read it tomorrow and be horrified at the quality of what I've written...right now however, I don't care!
