A Day at the Auctions

Last weekend we went to Tring Auctions.  It was such a fab day out, surrounded by piles of glorious things, most of which I could imagine looking very nice in our house....

Watching the bidding was lots of fun too, as well as seeing how much different things went for.  There were certainly bargains to be had!

We have been looking for some new chests of drawers for a while now and picked up this lovely Victorian piece for a very reasonable price.  I loved waving my card in a very knowledgeable fashion at the auctioneer, very exciting.

Edward got rather over excited and while my back was turned managed to end up winning the most ridiculously large chest.  The picture doesn't really show the scale of the thing, but I could fit inside it fairly comfortably...

It's lovely really, but also extremely large and probably a bit too big for our house.  A rather guilty looking husband tried to explain to me how exciting the bidding was and how he got carried away without realising, couldn't stop himself, was lost in the moment.  Oh dear.  We are now rather attached to it and are secretly not all that sad we won it.  Still not sure where it's going to live though...

During a break in the auction we nipped round the corner to a little farmers market and picked up a couple of French Bean plants, some lettuces, a tomato plant and a box of eggs.

I love these eggs, they are laid by Cream Legbar hens and are the most fabulous pale greeny blue colours.  Have managed to force myself to actually eat them and not just admire them until they go off.  Very golden yolks inside and extremely tasty.  The plants have been potted up, sprinkled liberally with slug pellets and covered with netting; HA to nature, and also yah boo sucks.
